Land Acknowledgement & Statement of Settler Accountability
With deep gratitude and respect, I acknowledge that I live and practice on the unceded ancestral territory of the Lekwungen speaking peoples, encompassing the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, and the WSÁNEĆ Nations (Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tsartlip, Pauquachin, and Tseycum), who have stewarded this land since time immemorial with brilliance and care. As an uninvited settler, I am acutely aware of my accountability to the Indigenous peoples of this territory and I am committed to decentering oppressive and colonial practices within myself and my work. Additionally, I pledge to support financial reparations, contributing to mutual aid and initiatives dedicated to reclaiming Indigenous sovereignty over land and life, recognizing that this is both a recognition of historical and current injustices and a step towards a more just and equitable future for all.
