Grief Circles

In our current era of climate catastrophe and global upheaval, it is normal and natural for feelings of anger, grief, despair, anxiety, and anguish to arise. These emotions may be especially pronounced for those who are disproportionately impacted by our global polycrises, including People of the Global Majority (BIPOC), 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, and those living in the Global South.

Inspired by the Circle Way, I am offering Grief Circles as a supportive space to embrace and process these emotions together, fostering a community of collective care, healing, and transformation. In line with the New Suns ethos, these groups will represent a space of mindfully being with what is while radically reimagining our relationship with the world, and employing our imagination, creativity, and hope for a just, sustainable and liberated future.

Embracing Our Shared Grief and Hope

"The pain for the world breaks our heart open, and that open heart is the source of our power." - Joanna Macy

  • A Space to Hold Grief

In acknowledging the heartbreak and despair brought on by these global crises, these groups offer a sanctuary for shared grief. Here, emotions are not to be 'fixed' or pathologized, but heard, validated, and respected.

  • Collective Care and Transformation

By sharing our experiences, we not only alleviate our personal burden but also participate in a larger process of collective healing when we envision new worlds (or New Suns) rooted in love, liberation, beauty, and justice.

  • Community Building

Grief circles are an invitation to join a supportive community where together we can build solidarity, cultivate shared hope, and transform our grief into action.

  • Process

Grief circles will be held online or in person lasting 1.5 hours a session. Incorporating mindfulness, expressive arts, journaling, and body-based techniques, along with open sharing, the circles are crafted for collective processing of the emotional impacts of global crises. The circles are not group therapy or a space to debate climate change, genocide, colonialism, or racism, etc.

  • Circle Dynamics

Circles will form based on interest, with a minimum of 4 participants needed to commence. This ensures a close-knit environment for meaningful interaction and support. Circles will be a maximum of 10 people. Participants can express their preference for affinity groups (BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, activists), with the formation of these groups contingent on the level of interest.

  • Donation-Based Participation

Grief circles are offered on a donation basis. Donations will support charitable causes or mutual aid.
